From NYT:

Two suspects in the failed car bombings in Britain made inquiries about working in the United States, the FBI said Friday, and police said an Iraqi doctor arrested at Glasgow airport became the first person charged in the attacks.

Mohammed Jamil Asha , a doctor, and his wife, Marwa (right), a medical technician, were among those arrested. With them are his mother and son.

Mohammed Jamil Asha , a doctor, and his wife, Marwa (right), a medical technician, were among those arrested. With them are his mother and son.

An FBI spokeswoman said Mohammed Asha and another suspect had contacted the Philadelphia-based Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, as first reported in The Philadelphia Inquirer. Asha, a Jordanian physician of Palestinian heritage, contacted the agency within the last year, but apparently did not take the test for foreign medical school graduates, said the spokeswoman, Nancy O’Dowd.

”He was applying, (but) we don’t believe he took the test,” she said. She could not confirm the name of the second suspect to make inquiries.

Later, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said police should charge 27-year-old Bilal Abdullah, an Iraqi-born physician arrested at Glasgow’s airport after a Jeep Cherokee he was allegedly traveling in rammed into a terminal building.

”I have now made the decision that there is sufficient evidence and authorized the charging of Bilal Abdullah with conspiracy to cause explosions following incidents in London and Glasgow,” said Susan Hemming, an anti-terrorism prosecutor.

More in The Gate:

An Iraqi doctor is the first suspect to be charged in attempting bombings in London and Glasgow, AP reports.

[…] BBC News has just obtained new video of the Glasgow crash; it contains graphic images.

From Forbes:

Prime Minister Gordon Brown warned Britons to expect increased security measures to guard against more attacks, but he expressed confidence investigators were unraveling the group behind the bombing attempts in London and Glasgow.

“From what I know, we are getting to the bottom of this cell that has been responsible for what is happening,” Brown told British Broadcasting Corp.

Police have also searched a property in Cambridge.

British intelligence knew of suspects:

According to various British newspapers, several of those detained were on the databases of domestic intelligence agency MI5 as “people who knew people” that were under observation, according to unnamed government sources cited by the Daily Telegraph.
The Times also reported, citing unidentified security sources, that none of them were under surveillance as part of counter-terrorism operations.
Meanwhile, British media outlets carried comments from Canon Andrew White, who runs Baghdad’s only Anglican parish, in which he says a senior Al-Qaeda figure warned him back in April of plans to attack British targets, reportedly telling him “those who cure you will kill you.”
As evidence of the jittery situation back in Britain, meanwhile, London’s Heathrow Airport was closed for five hours, with thousands of passengers left stranded after police evacuated Terminal Four because of a suspect package.

Al-Qaeda links to terror plot:

British intelligence services also believe that the failed car bombings in London and Glasgow bear the fingerprints of al Qaeda in Iraq.
Intelligence sources tell CBS News that the people behind the attempts were directly recruited by Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, the present leader of the terror group’s Iraq franchise.
Sources say that al-Muhajir recruited people for the plot between 2004 and 2005, while they were living in the Middle East, upon orders from then-al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Al-Muhajir was told to recruit young men who could easily move into Western countries, assimilate and lay low until the time came to attack. Britain has a fast-track visa program for medical students which makes it easier for them to enter the country.
The belief that this small cell of militants was recruited purposely by a major terror organization for their specific qualifications differentiates the group from the cell of “homegrown” attackers who were behind the bloody July 7, 2005 attack that left 52 people dead on London’s transport network.

Some days ago, I linked to an article in The Observer by , an ex-Jihadist belonging to Al-Muhajiroun, who said that Jihadis laugh when Western politicians blamed terrorism on Western countries’ foreign policy (more today by Sugiero). Well, we have it again…:

Bilal Abdulla, one of the two doctors arrested after a blazing Jeep Cherokee rammed into the Glasgow Airport terminal on Saturday, is a deeply religious Iraqi who was angry that his prominent Sunni family “lost everything” following the 2003 invasion led by the United States and Britain, according to a close family member.

“He was hurt by the destruction of his family’s property in Iraq,” the relative said during a 2 1/2 -hour interview in Cambridge, England. “I think he wanted to be a martyr. He wanted to send out a message to withdraw troops from Iraq. He wanted to cause chaos and fear; he didn’t want to kill people. He fears God, and all he wanted to do was die.”

Yeah, right. There are no other ways to protest against democratic decisions of a sovereign country than to explode bombs but no… he did not want to hurt/kill anyone, he wanted to die only… So the bombs, what were they? Haagen Dazs chocolate ice-cream? Or French baguettes? Or Spanish horchata de chufa?

No, he has been charged of “unlawfully and maliciously conspiring with others to cause explosions of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property in the United Kingdom” under the 1883 Explosive Substances Act. Exactly the kind of thing someone does without the intention of killing/hurting anyone. And…:

Police in Australia have also seized computers and other material as well as interviewing and subsequently releasing four doctors. A fifth doctor was also being questioned.

About Australian links click here:

Doctors as possible terrorists
“There seems to be some surprise that educated people such as medical professionals could become terrorists. However, a terrorist is a cognitive creation. People are not born terrorists and extreme behaviour does not depend on education or wealth. You can have extreme beliefs no matter whether you are a doctor, a religious person or a politician.”

More in MSNBC:

The seized computers had been used to communicate with Haneef, Keelty said. Haneef, who moved from the United Kingdom last year to take a hospital job in Gold Coast city in Queensland, is related to one of seven suspects in custody Britain, Saleeb Ahmed. The pair worked together at Halton Hospital in northern England in 2005.

Keelty said search warrants were executed at two others premises in Western Australia, which he did not identify.

Medical officials said Thursday that Ahmed, 26, and a second suspect in the British plot, Lebanese doctor Khalid Ahmed, 27, had unsuccessfully applied for medical jobs in the Western Australia public hospital system in the past two years.

State police, working with their federal counterparts, had interviewed four men overnight in connection with the investigation, seizing computers and communication equipment, state Police Deputy Commissioner Murray Lampard said.

LONDON, July 5 — A 23-year-old Moroccan-born computer whiz who helped recruit suicide bombers for the al-Qaeda in Iraq insurgent group was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday in the latest case to illustrate Britain’s struggles to contain the spread of Islamic radicalism. Two collaborators were also sentenced.image

Younis Tsouli, who described himself online as a terrorist James Bond, pleaded guilty to running a network of Web sites filled with al-Qaeda beheading videos and other propaganda from his home in London. Prosecutors accused him of acting as an electronic conduit between al-Qaeda in Iraq and militants from around the world looking for a way to volunteer for missions.

He actually served as a kind of travel agent, setting up suicide bombers with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi,” a top insurgent leader who was killed in a U.S. airstrike last year, said Evan F. Kohlmann, a New York-based private counterterrorism analyst who testified at the trial as a consultant for Scotland Yard. “He represents an unusual phenomenon: someone who is homegrown, who lives in the West, and has managed to make that jump into the world of real terrorism.”

And what these affable-peaceful guys were doing? [Also ugly… smile_sick]

A group of 45 Muslim doctors threatened to use car bombs and rocket grenades in terrorist attacks in the United States during discussions on an extremist internet chat site.
Police found details of the discussions on a site run by one of a three-strong “cyber-terrorist” gang.

So we wouldn’t be totally surprised to hear former Imam Sam Solomon saying this:

A former Imam is warning that extremists are aiming to establish sharia law in the UK – and that Britain has become the world ‘number one target’ for Islamic strategists.
He writes: ‘The UK is the number one target of Islamic strategies in the West (because) the former British Empire controlled some of the largest Muslim communities. Immigrants from these countries… have taken full advantage of Britain’s liberal politics.’

A very good reasoning: 100 years ago, Great Britain was an empire. When it ceases of being so, Muslims from former colonies launch an attack against it.

Logic, what this people need is to have an Aristotelian logic class. Their reasoning fails always to cope with logical requirements.

A new video by al-Qaida’s deputy leader Thursday left no doubt about what the terror network claims is at stake in Iraq describing it as a centerpiece of its anti-American fight and insisting the Iraqi insurgency is under its direct leadership.

But the proclamations by Ayman al-Zawahri carried another unintended message: reflecting the current troubles confronting the Sunni extremists in Iraq, experts said. The Islamic State of Iraq, the insurgent umbrella group that is claimed by al-Qaida, has faced ideological criticism from some militants, and rival armed groups have even joined U.S. battles against it.

A U.S.-led offensive northwest of Baghdad in one of the Islamic State’s strongholds may have temporarily disrupted and scattered insurgent forces. “Some of the developments suggest that it (the Islamic State) is more fragile than it was before,” said Bruce Hoffman, a Washington-based terrorism expert at the Rand Corp. think tank. Al-Zawahri “is trying to replenish the Islamic State brand,” he said. “It’s time to reassert its viability, but how connected to reality that is, is another issue.”

In the unusually long video at just over an hour and a half al-Zawahri depicted the Islamic State of Iraq as a vanguard for fighting off the U.S. military and eventually establishing a “caliphate” of Islamic rule across the region. “The Islamic State of Iraq is set up in Iraq, the mujahedeen (holy warriors) celebrate it in the streets of Iraq, the people demonstrate in support of it,” al-Zawahri said, “pledges of allegiance to it are declared in the mosques of Baghdad.”

He called on Muslims around the world to “support this blessed fledgling mujahid garrison state with funds, manpower, opinion, information and expertise.”

But al-Qaida in Iraq the group that claims allegiance to Osama bin Laden’s goals has been put on the defensive. Some Sunni insurgent groups have publicly split with it, distancing themselves from its bomb attacks on Iraqi civilians and accusing al-Qaida of trying to strong-arm their members into joining.

Well, when I posted on the Spanish blog this morning about this, there was a comment on the newspaper I linked to that I want to translate here:

Instead of spying on students and union representatives, why the US Intelligence Services do not kill these clerics who are the ones who create terrorism?

So:

1.- who has said that in US the students and union representatives are spied on regularly by US Intelligence Services?

2.- what happens with European and other Western countries’ Intelligence services? Are they blind? Can’t they kill them?

3.- aren’t we saying that the best way to stop terrorism is negotiating with terrorists?

No, the important thing is to blame US and then to accuse CIA of killing innocents…

[Note: I am not saying that every operation the CIA does is marvellous. I am saying that why on earth these parrots don’t blame the rest of the Western countries for the rising of Islamism and specially of these radical clerics].

BBC:

Russia has raised the idea of moving new missile forces to Kaliningrad, close to Poland and Lithuania.

First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov linked the possible move to US plans for a missile defence system in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Russia has already threatened to hit back by targeting missiles at Europe.

Mr Ivanov said there would be no need to move extra forces to Kaliningrad if the US agreed to use Russian facilities instead of the Polish and Czech bases.

Russia says the US plans for a limited missile defence shield, including bases close to Russia’s borders, represent a threat to its security.

US President George W Bush has described the idea as “innovative” but indicated that the US will press ahead with the plans for a radar station in the Czech Republic, and a missile base in Poland.

The US says its missile shield is not directed at Russia, but at what it considers “rogue states” such as Iran.

Well, these are good news indeed!!

Catholic nun from Pennsylvania is the first non-Jew and non-Israeli to receive Yad Vashem’s Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education. Sister Gemma del Duca, a Sister of Charity and former chair of the history department at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa., has been leading seminars for Holocaust education with the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial for two decades.

The seminars, started on her initiative, are intended for groups of Catholic educators and clergy, primarily from the United States. According to Yad Vashem, hundreds of educators have taken part in the seminars.

A native of Greensburg, Pa., Sister Gemma has been living in Israel since 1975, and she approached Yad Vashem with her idea in 1987 in response to Pope John Paul II’s call to recognize the significance of the Holocaust. “(Sister) Gemma is the person who opened the door here to bringing Catholic educators to Yad Vashem,” said Ephraim Kaye, who works with international educators at Yad Vashem. “They have been a real dedicated and determined group of people who take back what they have learned here. We have (Sister) Gemma to thank for that. It is really not to be taken for granted.

An investigation into airstrikes that slammed into Afghan homes where Taliban fighters sought shelter found that 62 insurgents and 45 civilians were killed, two Afghan officials said Sunday.

An investigating team was sent to Helmand province’s Gereshk district, where fighting took place between insurgents and Western forces late Friday, said Dur Ali Shah, the mayor of Helmand province’s Gereshk district, and Mohammad Hussein Andewal, the provincial police chief.

NATO’s International Security Assistance Force has acknowledged some civilians were killed in the southern battle but has said the death toll was nowhere near as high as Afghan officials have claimed.

Because of the battle site’s remote location, it was impossible to independently verify the casualty claims. Afghan officials said fighter jets and ground forces were still patrolling the region and that the fighting continued into Saturday.

Meanwhile, a suicide attacker on foot blew himself up near a convoy of British forces in Gereshk district on Sunday, wounding several Afghans, an Associated Press reporter at the scene said.

The battle on Friday began when Taliban fighters tried to ambush a joint U.S.-Afghan military convoy, then fled to Hyderabad village for cover, said Helmand provincial Police Chief Mohammad Hussein. Airstrikes then targeted the militants in the village.

Afghans: 62 Taliban, 45 civilians killed – Yahoo! News

From FOX.com.

Civilian deaths have infuriated Afghans. President Hamid Karzai has condemned the forces for carelessness and viewing Afghan lives as “cheap.” He also has blamed the Taliban for using civilians as human shields.

So what Pres. Karzai want forces to do? I know that it’s a very difficult decision to make but does he want the UN forces not to respond to attacks when the Taliban just uses normal people as human shields so they think the UN forces are a bunch of pussies who have “compassion”=frailty for militants?

It’s a tough problem to solve.

But at least, he recognises they took the people as human shields. Something which is not widely recognised.

A bit of common sense indeed:

[…] The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Friday to prohibit any aid to Saudi Arabia as lawmakers accused the close ally of religious intolerance and bankrolling terrorist organizations. The prohibition, reflecting persistent tensions with the kingdom after the September 11 attacks on the United States in 2001, was attached to a foreign aid funding bill for next year that has not yet been debated by the Senate. It also faces a veto threat from the White House because of an unrelated provision. […]

Saudi Arabia propagates terrorism. We all know that 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi,” said Rep. Shelley Berkley, a Nevada Democrat. She added that Saudi youths had entered Iraq to “wage jihad” against U.S. forces fighting there. Osama bin Laden, the Saudi-born leader of the al Qaeda group that carried out the September 11 attacks, was expelled from the kingdom in 1991 for anti-government activities.

[…] Lawmakers also complained that with Saudi Arabia’s vast wealth from oil revenues, U.S. taxpayers do not need to subsidize training Saudis. “With poor countries all over the globe begging us for help, why are we giving money to this oil-rich nation?” Berkley said.

mozer al-KassarSome days ago I wrote about Al Kassar. You can read what Douglas Farah writes about him here h/t Counterterrorism Blog. Summing up:

  1. armed Farah Aideed in Somalia.
  2. Nicaraguan Contra rebels.
  3. was close friends with Abu Abbas, the notorious PLF terrorist.
  4. Government files in various countries indicate that he was jailed in the UK on hashish charges in the 1970s, although he denies it.
  5. UN report says he violated arms embargoes to Croatia and Somalia in 1992.
  6. A Swiss court froze and later released millions related to a multi-million-pound arms sale to Croatia.
  7. Documents in US court related to a Spanish inquiry indicate he has been investigated, but not prosecuted, on allegations of providing a silenced 9mm pistol used to shoot a suspected Israeli agent in 1984.
  8. may have been involved in procuring components of a Chinese anti-ship missile for Iran.
  9. investigated in Argentina on charges of passport fraud.
  10. delivered explosives to a group headed by a known terrorist in Brazil.
  11. sold arms to Iranian militias in Cyprus.
  12. Now the FARC-controlled cocaine.

He finishes:

For years al Kassar has been, like the character in the Nicholas Cage movie “Lord of War,” untouchable. At the end of the movie, Cage’s character is arrested, and he tells the arresting agent that, in about 5 minutes, the phone would ring and he would be ordered to be released. And of course it happens.

well, let’s see what the end is here..

U.S. soldiers helped rescue 24 abused and severely malnourished boys this month from a Baghdad orphanage, where they were found in conditions of appalling squalor, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.2007_06_20t102533_450x338_us_iraq_orphans

Iraqi and U.S. soldiers were led to the Al-Hanan orphanage on June 10 by members of a neighborhood council and immediately took the children to hospital. The story was first reported by CBS News on Monday.

The 24 boys, aged 3 to 15 years old, were found naked in a darkened room without any windows. Many of the children were tied to their beds and were too weak to stand once released,” the U.S. military said in a statement.

Pictures on Iraqi television showed a series of tiny, starved, naked figures. In one, a U.S. soldier attended a boy whose body was covered in sores.

Another child was tied to a cot and a third picture showed a group of boys lying face down on the floor, in pools of what appeared to be their own excrement.

abused boys in orphanageIn a nearby locked room, the soldiers discovered a room full of food and clothing that could have been used to aid the children,” the statement said.

A spokeswoman for the government ministry responsible for the orphanage said that the building’s director had been arrested, together with several members of his staff.

Since leaving hospital, the boys have been moved to an orphanage for girls next door to where they were found.

I wrote some days ago about the possibility of Hamas imposing Sharia Law and how it was feared both by Israelis and Palestinians. Well, it is happening just now:

WorldNetDaily: Christians warned: Accept Islamic law

Christians can continue living safely in the Gaza Strip only if they accept Islamic law, including a ban on alcohol and on women roaming publicly without proper head coverings, an Islamist militant leader in Gaza told WND in an exclusive interview.

The militant leader said Christians in Gaza who engage in “missionary activity” will be “dealt with harshly.”

The threats come two days after a church and Christian school in Gaza was attacked following the seizure of power in the territory by the Hamas terror group.

“I expect our Christian neighbors to understand the new Hamas rule means real changes. They must be ready for Islamic rule if they want to live in peace in Gaza,” said Sheik Abu Saqer, leader of Jihadia Salafiya, an Islamic outreach movement that recently announced the opening of a “military wing” to enforce Muslim law in Gaza.

Jihadia Salafiya is suspected of attacking a United Nations school in Gaza last month, after the school allowed boys and girls to participate in the same sporting event. One person was killed in that attack.

“The situation has now changed 180 degrees in Gaza,” said Abu Saqer, speaking from Gaza yesterday.

“Jihadia Salafiya and other Islamic movements will ensure Christian schools and institutions show publicly what they are teaching to be sure they are not carrying out missionary activity. No more alcohol on the streets. All women, including non-Muslims, need to understand they must be covered at all times while in public,” Abu Asqer told WND.

“Also the activities of Internet cafes, pool halls and bars must be stopped,” he said. “If it goes on, we’ll attack these things very harshly.”

Abu Saqer accused the leadership of the Gaza Christian community of “proselytizing and trying to convert Muslims with funding from American evangelicals.”

Anyway, West offers cash and talks to keep Abbas in charge as partner for peace-News-World-Middle East-TimesOnline

America and the European Union moved swiftly to shore up Palestinian moderates yesterday, releasing millions of dollars for the new Government based in the West Bank.

Washington and Brussels announced the lifting of economic sanctions after Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President, sacked all members of Hamas, the militant Islamic group, which staged last week’s bloody takeover of the Gaza Strip. In a telephone call yesterday President Bush told Mr Abbas that the US would support “Palestinian moderates”.

Later Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, reaffirmed America’s commitment to the “two-state solution” for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, first promised by Mr Bush five years ago. Palestinians faced a choice, she said, between pursuing more violence or peace and a better life.

The US has recognised Mr Abbas and his new Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad, as the legitimate leaders of the West Bank and Gaza. Dr Rice promised yesterday that this meant the US would resume normal “government-to-government contacts”.

And from Infidel Bloggers Alliance: Stupid request of the day:

B’Tselem demands that perpetrators of war crimes in Gaza be tried and warns against revenge attacks in the West Bank
The Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem today calls on the Palestinian leadership of Hamas in the Gaza Strip to investigate all war crimes that may have been committed during the clashes in the Gaza Strip, and to bring all suspects to criminal trial.

UPDATE: GayandRight: Christians under attach in Gaza… Who is going to defend this people??

Father Manuel Musalam, leader of the small Latin community in the Gaza Strip, said masked gunmen torched and looted the Rosary Sisters School and the Latin Church.

The masked gunmen used rocket-propelled grenades to storm the main entrances of the school and church,” he said. “Then they destroyed almost everything inside, including the Cross, the Holy
Book, computers and other equipment
.”

Musalam expressed outrage over the burning of copies of the Bible, noting that the gunmen destroyed all the Crosses inside the church and school. “Those who did these awful things have no respect for Christian-Muslim relations,” he said.

When are going to be the next outraged Christian riots when we will burn Hamas flag? 😦 This is despicable…

(Reuters) – Israel plans to tighten a financial clampdown on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip that would choke off all but humanitarian and basic supplies, senior Israeli and Western officials said on Tuesday.
While opening the funding taps to the Western-backed emergency government set up by President Mahmoud Abbas in the occupied West Bank,
Israel and the United States want to isolate Hamas financially, diplomatically and militarily in the Gaza Strip, which the Islamist group seized by force last week.
To that end, two senior Israeli officials said the plan was to bar Palestinian tax funds transferred to Abbas from reaching Gaza to run Hamas-led agencies and pay workers.
Gaza is a terrorist-controlled entity now,” said one of the Israeli officials, who is working with U.S. officials to isolate Hamas. “No financial assistance can go to any entity or person with connections to the Hamas-run administration in Gaza.”

The humanitarian crisis is going to be outstanding. After last year 14.000 Palestinians flee, now Gazans stream to crossing with Israel – Yahoo! News

Hundreds of terrified Gazans fleeing Hamas rule were trapped at a main crossing with Israel on Tuesday, hoping to gain permission to pass through Israeli territory to sanctuary in the West Bank.

Fearing death or persecution, Gazans began flocking to the Erez passage after Hamas militants wrested control of the coastal strip from Fatah security forces late last week. Israel, which has no interest in letting masses of Gazans pass through its territory and possibly destabilize the quieter West Bank, has refused to let most of them in, saying their lives were not in danger.
By Tuesday, about 600 people were holed up in the long, concrete tunnel that leads to the Israeli side of the crossing. Around 100 people belonged to Fatah security forces, but the rest were civilians, seeking a better life in the West Bank.
Women, children and young men sat between two high concrete walls about 10 yards apart, looking tired and sweaty. Suitcases and trash were strewn on the ground. Some families sat on mats, others on bare concrete. A breeze barely stirred between the walls, and the tunnel, which has no toilets, reeked of urine and sweat.
On Monday, gunmen allied with Hamas disguised themselves as fleeing civilians and hurled hand grenades at Israeli soldiers and Palestinians at Erez, killing a relative of a slain Fatah warlord, and injuring 15 other Palestinians.

UPDATE 4: Also read Jules Crittenden’s “Enemy of my Enemy” h/t Abdul in Freedom’s Zone. Abdul writes:

Conveniently, the word Fatah (or Fath) was a specific label Muslims ascribed to the bloody and barbaric expansion of Islam by the sword over its first hundred years (Hmmmm – there’s aclue here somewhere as to their intentions). As an organization, Fatah is one of many borne out of the Muslim Brotherhood. Fatah logo contains two crossed assault rifles superimposed on the land of Israel covered in Islamic green. Qur’anic slogans on the graphic depiction of Fatah’s mission encourages jihad. These days, Fatah conducts its terrorist missions under the name al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades. As one writer phrases it, if Fatah was Nazism, al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades would be the SS. For those who have lived in a cave since WW-II, this is not something that denotes love and kindness, and tolerance of Jews and infidels that don’t follow the radical line.

UPDATE 5: Don’t laugh: Catholic World News : Gaza convent sacked; Hamas condemns action

Gaza, Jun. 19, 2007 (CWNews.com) – On June 14, a school administered by the Sisters of the Holy Rosary was demolished in the Gaza Strip. In the chapel adjoining the sisters’ convent, the crucifix and a statue of Christ were broken and prayer books burned.

Father Manuel Mussallam, the only Catholic priest currently living in Gaza, denounced the sacking of the school and convent, describing it to AsiaNews as a “barbaric act.” The incident occurred during the course of fighting between two Palestinian factions: al Fatah and Hamas.

Although the school and convent are located near a police station, a spokesman for Hamas– which now controls the Gaza Strip– said that the group was not responsible for the violence against the Catholic nuns. Salah Bardawil said: “The Christians are our brothers in Gaza and everywhere, and we will protect their holy places and school, as we do our Islamic schools.”

We will protect every Christian in the earth the moment they submit. In the meantime, we will ransack their places… to remind them who is in charge…

Yesterday it was 4, today the number is 35.

An enormous bomb ripped through a police academy bus at Kabul’s busiest transportation hub Sunday, killing at least 35 people in the deadliest insurgent [as ever] attack in Afghanistan since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001. The Taliban claimed responsibility.

The thunderous explosion in Kabul, which sheared the metal sidings and roof off the bus, leaving only a charred skeleton, represented a leap in scale from previous Taliban or al-Qaida bombings here, raising the specter of an increase in Iraq-style attacks in Afghanistan.

In the country’s south, a roadside explosion killed three soldiers from the U.S.-led coalition and their Afghan interpreter. The brief statement about the blast in Kandahar province did not disclose the soldiers’ nationalities. The three deaths bring to 84 the number of U.S. or NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year, including at least 40 Americans.

In the Kabul explosion, at least 35 people were killed, including 22 policemen, said Ahmed Zia Aftali, head of the city’s military hospital. A victim said the bus had been filled with police instructors.

A purported Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, said a Taliban suicide bomber. The claim by Ahmadi, who called an Associated Press reporter by satellite phone from an undisclosed location, claim could not be verified. If true, it would be the fifth suicide attack in Afghanistan in three days.

Power Line: Intelligence: China Supplying Terrorists In Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan

New intelligence reveals China is covertly supplying large quantities of small arms and weapons to insurgents in Iraq and the Taliban militia in Afghanistan, through Iran. Some arms were sent by aircraft directly from Chinese factories to Afghanistan and included large-caliber sniper rifles, millions of rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades and components for roadside bombs, as well as other small arms.
According to the officials, the Iranians, in buying the arms, asked Chinese state-run suppliers to expedite the transfers and to remove serial numbers to prevent tracing their origin. China, for its part, offered to transport the weapons in order to prevent the weapons from being interdicted.
U.S. Army specialists suspect the weapons were transferred within the past three months.
The Bush administration has been trying to hide or downplay the intelligence reports to protect its pro-business policies toward China, and to continue to claim that China is helping the United States in the war on terrorism. U.S. officials have openly criticized Iran for the arms transfers but so far there has been no mention that China is a main supplier.

If this is confirmed they are indeed dangerous news. But why it does not surprise me?… And then there are people who speaks openly about ending weapons’ embargo to China

Suicide bomber kills 4 in Afghan capital – Houston Chronicle

Suicide bomber kills 4 in Afghan capital
Houston Chronicle – 40 minutes ago
By RAHIM FAIEZ AP Writer © 2007 AP KABUL, Afghanistan – A suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of American contract workers and military personnel in the Afghan capital on Saturday, killing at least four civilians, officials said.

Maj. Sheldon Smith, a U.S. spokesman for troops training Afghan
police and army soldiers, said American contract workers and military
personnel were in the convo
y. A spokesman at the U.S. base at Bagram
said workers with DynCorp, who are helping train Afghan police, were
attacked.

Smith said the coalition “never intentionally
endangers the lives of innocent Afghan civilians” but that the Taliban
routinely and intentionally uses explosive devices in heavily populated
areas.

Taliban spokesmen have warned Afghan civilians to
avoid military convoys, but suicide bombings commonly kill or wound far
more civilians than military targets — a fact NATO repeatedly points
out.

The Amerian soldier in a Humvee “mistakenly” opened
fire on the crowd after the suicide attack, killing one civilian and
wounding three
, said Zalmai Khan, deputy Kabul police chief.

Afterward, a crowd of 50 to 100 people gathered, with some chanting “Death to America” and jabbing their arms at police.

One
man in the crowd, Atta Mohammad, said the civilian killed by the U.S.
soldier was just trying to buy credit for his cell phone. “Nobody among
us was doing anything wrong,” Mohammad said.

They are against us, they are against Afghans,” said another, Abdul Rahim.

Look at the logic eh? A suicide bomber kills four civilians at least. Totally intentionally. A soldier after the attack kills mistakenly 1 and hurts 3. And the crowd doe snot chant “death to the Talibans, they are against us“, but “Death to America, they are against us“. Isn’t life wonderful…

A day of national mourning has been declared for the funerals of Walid Eido – an anti-Syrian member of the Lebanese Parliament – his son and nine others, who were killed in a bomb blast in Beirut yesterday. Mr. Eido’s allies blamed the bombing on Syria and said it was in response to the establishment of a UN court to try suspects in political killings. Syria has not commented on the attack. The Sunni Muslim legislator was the seventh anti-Syrian figure to be assassinated since February 2005 when former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri was killed in a suicide truck bombing.

Gateway Pundit has more.

Anti-Syrian politician Walid Eido and his son were killed in the bomb blast.

His assasination has caused Beyrut to fall in psycosis. From Le Monde.

Mourners lash out at Syria al Lebanon MP’s death.

More in Right Truth:

Sixty-five-year-old Lebanese MP Walid Eido, his eldest son Khaled, and eight others were killed in a bomb blast near his Beirut beach club that the ruling majority in Parliament blamed on Syria.

There has been a clear pattern of assassinations and attempted assassinations in Lebanon since October 2004,” Mr Bush said in a statement.

Those working for a sovereign and democratic Lebanon have always been the ones targeted.

“The victims have always been those who sought an end to Syrian President Assad’s interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.” (ABC).

Firstly, whatever Al Gore have said in the past, researches have discovered that the meltdown of Kilimanjaro glacier is not caused by global warming h/t Desde El Exilio:

Kilimanjaro’s ice has been melting away for more than a century, and most of that melt occurred before 1953, prior to the period where science begins to be conclusive about atmospheric warming in that region, according to Philip Mote of the University of Washington and Georg Kaser of the University of Innsbruck in Austria.

Also, as a tropical glacier, the processes governing ice melt on Kilimanjaro (located in Tanzania) are different than those on other mid-latitude glaciers located closer to the Earth’s poles.

Also there are incresing signs of discontented scientists with this theory h/t Relapsed Catholic.

Though the fear of man-made global warming has come to dominate our cultural discourse, the science behind the scare is looking increasingly uncertain. David Evans is representative of scientists who have become disillusioned with the theory that industrial carbon dioxide emissions are the root cause of global warming: as he points out, the computer models don’t seem to fit the data, while at the same time evidence is mounting in favor of alternative hypotheses, like the idea that climate change may be caused in large part by fluctuations in solar radiation. A series of articles by Lawrence Solomon, who has profiled prominent climate-change dissenters, demonstrates that Evans is hardly alone—and calls into question the often-parroted assertion that there is some sort of scientific “consensus” on the issue (whatever that might mean).

Read it all.

Lastly, we have (supposed) Presidential candidate Fred Thompson writing about the news that indicate that some planets of our solar system are also warming themselves. h/t O Inominável:

This has led some people, not necessarily scientists, to wonder if Mars and Jupiter, non-signatories to the Kyoto Treaty, are actually inhabited by alien SUV-driving industrialists who run their air conditioning at 60 degrees and refuse to recycle.

smile_teeth  😀  Yeah, right.
