– Ibiza airport was evacuated on Saturday, after a bomb warning upset the start of the peak holiday season on the Mediterranean island, Spanish police said.

Local media said the Interior Ministry had stepped in to deny earlier reports of a controlled explosion at the airport. Police, government and airport officials were unavailable for immediate official comment on the media reports.

Police evacuated the airport after Basque newspaper Gara, used by the armed separatist guerrillas ETA to distribute information, received a telephoned warning of a bomb, Gara said on its website. But the caller did not say who they represented, which is usually the case with ETA.

Ibiza has long been a magnet for thousands of British and German holidaymakers and flights were diverted from the airport.

Basque rebels said on June 5 they were calling off a 15-month-old ceasefire, which the group had already effectively broken by bombing Madrid airport in December.

Spain’s Ibiza airport evacuated after bomb alert – Yahoo! News

It’s good that AP has taken notice that ETA effectively broke the ceasefire on Dec 30th when two persons where killed -something Zapatero does not-, but it does not say Socialist Government has been negotiating with ETA -that we have proof of-  till the week before the last May elections, negotiations which began two years before Zapatero came to power. But we suspect they are continuing just now.

In the end it was a false alert.

And after what happened yesterday (that has already being blamed on British foreign policy by… Muslims): smile_sad

A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.

Fire at airport

The car was ablaze before crashing into the building

Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.

They have also described seeing two Asian men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.

The airport has been evacuated and all flights suspended following the incident at 1515 BST.

A Whitehall spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a national security threat.

One eyewitness said: “I heard the sound of a car’s wheels spinning and smoke mapa bombs glasgowcoming out.

I saw a Jeep Cherokee apparently as if it was trying to get right through the doors into the terminal building.

“There were flames coming out from underneath then some men appeared from in amongst the flames.

“The police ran over and the people started fighting with the police. I then heard what sounded like an explosion.”

Eye-witness Richard Gray told BBC News 24: “A green Jeep was in the middle of the doorway burning.

The incident happened 1515 BST on Saturday

There was an Asian guy who was pulled out of the car by two police officers, who he was trying to fight off. They’ve got him on the ground. Map showing the airport location

“The car didn’t actually explode. There were a few pops and bangs which presumably was the petrol.”

Taxi driver Ian Crosby said: “This was no accident. This was a deliberate attack on Glasgow Airport.”

The reaction of members of the public was not to help the men in the car, but to restrain them, he told the BBC.

Mr Crosby, who said he served in Northern Ireland, told how he shepherded people away from the scene in case of a secondary explosion or a nail-bomb.

Two men, one of whom was reported to be badly burned, were seen being led away in handcuffs.

More in Hot Air. CNN says it was deliberate. FOUR PEOPLE ARRESTED. smile_omg

The scene on Friday in Landi Kotal, where pro-Taliban militants on Thursday night blew up a fuel convoy bound for Afghanistan.

Published: June 30, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 28 — The Pakistani president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, was warned this month that Islamic militants and Taliban fighters were rapidly spreading beyond the country’s lawless tribal areas and that without “swift and decisive action,” the growing militancy could engulf the rest of the country.

The warning came in a document from the Interior Ministry, which said Pakistan’s security forces in North-West Frontier Province abutting the tribal areas were outgunned and outnumbered and had forfeited authority to the Taliban and their allies.

The ongoing spell of active Taliban resistance has brought about serious repercussions for Pakistan,” says the 15-page document, which was shown to The New YorkTimes. “There is a general policy of appeasement towards the Taliban, which has further emboldened them.”

The document was discussed by this country’s National Security Councilon June 4 while General Musharraf was present, the document notes. It appears to be the first such document to emerge from the Pakistani government formally recognizing the seriousness of the spreading threat here from Al Qaeda and the Taliban, according to a Western diplomat.

The diplomat, who was not authorized to speak for attribution, called the document “an accurate description of the dagger pointed at thecountry’s heart.”

It’s tragic it’s taken so long to recognize it,” the diplomat added.

Indeed, the recognition of the scope of the extremists’ authority comes after heavy pressure on Pakistan from the United States to contain thelawlessness in the tribal areas. Washington has poured some $1 billion a year into Pakistan in the last five years for what are described as reimbursements for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts along the borderith Afghanistan.

The prime purpose of the sizable financial support has been to stop the area from becoming a haven for the Taliban and Al Qaeda as they wage their insurgency in Afghanistan.

But now the Interior Ministry is telling General Musharraf that the influence of the extremists is swiftly bleeding east and deeper into his own country, threatening areas like Peshawar, Nowshera and Kohat, which were considered to be safeguarded by Pakistani government forces.

Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao, the prime mover behind the document, narrowly escaped a suicide bomb attack in April by extremists in his home area of Charsadda, 18 miles northeast of Peshawar, the capital of North-West Frontier Province.

Theattack on Mr. Sherpao shook his confidence in General Musharraf’s policy toward the militants, which has included a series of peace deals.

Do we have to remember that Pakistan already has the nuclear bomb?

Something I have been blogging about for some time.

  1. Muslims protesting for Rushdie’s kinghthood.
  2. Pakistan expanding nuclear program.
  3. Pakistan: 28-year-old Catholic tortured by mob.
  4. Jihad in Pakistan: now also women and children.
  5. Musharraf wants to forbid the insult to Islam in order to prevent terrorism.
  6. Talibans update: beheadings, killings and other Jihadi behaviour.
  7. Pakistan update: demonstrations against Musharraf and Al-Qaeda’s sanctuary.

A marvellous perspective. 😦

Plateau writes about the new film Oliver Stone is going to make: about Ahmadinejad (no, you have not read wrongly):

Oscar-winner Oliver Stone has sent aletter to the Iranian president’s office requesting permission to makea docudrama on President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, stated an Iranian producerwho is regularly consulted by the president’s art and culturaladvisors.

The request was made three months ago byStone, the famous U.S. filmmaker, who has directed numerous films with socio-political themes over the past few years,” Alireza Sajjadpur toldthe Persian service of the Iranian Students’ News Agency on Friday.

I think it is a good proposal and I would like the request to be accepted,” he added.

I bet he is not going to consider the treatment of women,

of gays

or of minors (also here) for the movie…

Oh and I bet he is not going also to consider the treatment to the Amir Kabir students.

There are good reasons to believe that the students have received repeated physical and psychological tortures in order to confess tofalse confessions about the allegations attached to them by statenewspapers.

I just can’t stand this millionaires who had no consideration of the real world. What a difference with this other film. Really impressive. Plateau describes Iranian film Persepolis:

Persepolis is the poignant story of a young girl coming-of-age in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of precocious and outspoken nine-year-old Marjane that we see a people’s hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power — forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. Clever and fearless, she outsmarts the “social guardians” and discovers punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden. Yet when her uncle is senselessly executed and as bombs fall around Tehran in the Iran/Iraq war the daily fear that permeates life in Iran is palpable.

I will search for it in Spain.
