– Ibiza airport was evacuated on Saturday, after a bomb warning upset the start of the peak holiday season on the Mediterranean island, Spanish police said.

Local media said the Interior Ministry had stepped in to deny earlier reports of a controlled explosion at the airport. Police, government and airport officials were unavailable for immediate official comment on the media reports.

Police evacuated the airport after Basque newspaper Gara, used by the armed separatist guerrillas ETA to distribute information, received a telephoned warning of a bomb, Gara said on its website. But the caller did not say who they represented, which is usually the case with ETA.

Ibiza has long been a magnet for thousands of British and German holidaymakers and flights were diverted from the airport.

Basque rebels said on June 5 they were calling off a 15-month-old ceasefire, which the group had already effectively broken by bombing Madrid airport in December.

Spain’s Ibiza airport evacuated after bomb alert – Yahoo! News

It’s good that AP has taken notice that ETA effectively broke the ceasefire on Dec 30th when two persons where killed -something Zapatero does not-, but it does not say Socialist Government has been negotiating with ETA -that we have proof of-  till the week before the last May elections, negotiations which began two years before Zapatero came to power. But we suspect they are continuing just now.

In the end it was a false alert.

And after what happened yesterday (that has already being blamed on British foreign policy by… Muslims): smile_sad

A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.

Fire at airport

The car was ablaze before crashing into the building

Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.

They have also described seeing two Asian men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.

The airport has been evacuated and all flights suspended following the incident at 1515 BST.

A Whitehall spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a national security threat.

One eyewitness said: “I heard the sound of a car’s wheels spinning and smoke mapa bombs glasgowcoming out.

I saw a Jeep Cherokee apparently as if it was trying to get right through the doors into the terminal building.

“There were flames coming out from underneath then some men appeared from in amongst the flames.

“The police ran over and the people started fighting with the police. I then heard what sounded like an explosion.”

Eye-witness Richard Gray told BBC News 24: “A green Jeep was in the middle of the doorway burning.

The incident happened 1515 BST on Saturday

There was an Asian guy who was pulled out of the car by two police officers, who he was trying to fight off. They’ve got him on the ground. Map showing the airport location

“The car didn’t actually explode. There were a few pops and bangs which presumably was the petrol.”

Taxi driver Ian Crosby said: “This was no accident. This was a deliberate attack on Glasgow Airport.”

The reaction of members of the public was not to help the men in the car, but to restrain them, he told the BBC.

Mr Crosby, who said he served in Northern Ireland, told how he shepherded people away from the scene in case of a secondary explosion or a nail-bomb.

Two men, one of whom was reported to be badly burned, were seen being led away in handcuffs.

The scene on Friday in Landi Kotal, where pro-Taliban militants on Thursday night blew up a fuel convoy bound for Afghanistan.

Published: June 30, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 28 — The Pakistani president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, was warned this month that Islamic militants and Taliban fighters were rapidly spreading beyond the country’s lawless tribal areas and that without “swift and decisive action,” the growing militancy could engulf the rest of the country.

The warning came in a document from the Interior Ministry, which said Pakistan’s security forces in North-West Frontier Province abutting the tribal areas were outgunned and outnumbered and had forfeited authority to the Taliban and their allies.

The ongoing spell of active Taliban resistance has brought about serious repercussions for Pakistan,” says the 15-page document, which was shown to The New YorkTimes. “There is a general policy of appeasement towards the Taliban, which has further emboldened them.”

The document was discussed by this country’s National Security Councilon June 4 while General Musharraf was present, the document notes. It appears to be the first such document to emerge from the Pakistani government formally recognizing the seriousness of the spreading threat here from Al Qaeda and the Taliban, according to a Western diplomat.

The diplomat, who was not authorized to speak for attribution, called the document “an accurate description of the dagger pointed at thecountry’s heart.”

It’s tragic it’s taken so long to recognize it,” the diplomat added.

Indeed, the recognition of the scope of the extremists’ authority comes after heavy pressure on Pakistan from the United States to contain thelawlessness in the tribal areas. Washington has poured some $1 billion a year into Pakistan in the last five years for what are described as reimbursements for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts along the borderith Afghanistan.

The prime purpose of the sizable financial support has been to stop the area from becoming a haven for the Taliban and Al Qaeda as they wage their insurgency in Afghanistan.

But now the Interior Ministry is telling General Musharraf that the influence of the extremists is swiftly bleeding east and deeper into his own country, threatening areas like Peshawar, Nowshera and Kohat, which were considered to be safeguarded by Pakistani government forces.

Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao, the prime mover behind the document, narrowly escaped a suicide bomb attack in April by extremists in his home area of Charsadda, 18 miles northeast of Peshawar, the capital of North-West Frontier Province.

Theattack on Mr. Sherpao shook his confidence in General Musharraf’s policy toward the militants, which has included a series of peace deals.

Do we have to remember that Pakistan already has the nuclear bomb?

Something I have been blogging about for some time.

  1. Muslims protesting for Rushdie’s kinghthood.
  2. Pakistan expanding nuclear program.
  3. Pakistan: 28-year-old Catholic tortured by mob.
  4. Jihad in Pakistan: now also women and children.
  5. Musharraf wants to forbid the insult to Islam in order to prevent terrorism.
  6. Talibans update: beheadings, killings and other Jihadi behaviour.
  7. Pakistan update: demonstrations against Musharraf and Al-Qaeda’s sanctuary.

A marvellous perspective. 😦

Plateau writes about the new film Oliver Stone is going to make: about Ahmadinejad (no, you have not read wrongly):

Oscar-winner Oliver Stone has sent aletter to the Iranian president’s office requesting permission to makea docudrama on President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, stated an Iranian producerwho is regularly consulted by the president’s art and culturaladvisors.

The request was made three months ago byStone, the famous U.S. filmmaker, who has directed numerous films with socio-political themes over the past few years,” Alireza Sajjadpur toldthe Persian service of the Iranian Students’ News Agency on Friday.

I think it is a good proposal and I would like the request to be accepted,” he added.

I bet he is not going to consider the treatment of women,

stones2.jpg

of gays

or of minors (also here) for the movie…

Oh and I bet he is not going also to consider the treatment to the Amir Kabir students.

There are good reasons to believe that the students have received repeated physical and psychological tortures in order to confess tofalse confessions about the allegations attached to them by statenewspapers.

I just can’t stand this millionaires who had no consideration of the real world. What a difference with this other film. Really impressive. Plateau describes Iranian film Persepolis:

Persepolis is the poignant story of a young girl coming-of-age in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of precocious and outspoken nine-year-old Marjane that we see a people’s hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power — forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. Clever and fearless, she outsmarts the “social guardians” and discovers punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden. Yet when her uncle is senselessly executed and as bombs fall around Tehran in the Iran/Iraq war the daily fear that permeates life in Iran is palpable.

I will search for it in Spain.

From BBC:

Haymarket

Police say the area will be closed for some time

Police have made safe a suspected car bomb in the heart of London.Officers carried out a controlled explosion afterreports of a suspicious vehicle parked in The Haymarket shortly before0200 BST (0100 GMT).

The immediate area was cordoned off while police examined what they described as a “potentially viable explosive device“.

There are unconfirmed reports that gas canisters were removed from the back of the car, close to Piccadilly Circus.

The government’s emergency unit Cobra has called a meeting and the new Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is due to attend.

Map

One police source said the bomb was a “big device” andposed a real and substantial threat to the area around The Haymarket, which is in London’s theatreland.

A witness reported seeing gas canisters being removedfrom the car, believed to be a silver Mercedes, at around 0400 BST(O300 GMT).

Bouncers from a nearby nightclub said they saw the carbeing driven erratically before it crashed into a bin. They said thedriver then got out and ran off.

Dozens of forensic officers were today poring over the scene, which was covered by a blue plastic police tent.

Scotland Yard said detectives from Counter TerrorismCommand were investigating the potential bomb plot and will be checkingall the close circuit cameras in the area.

[…] Piccadilly Circus Tube station is closed and trains are not stopping, while local bus services are being diverted.

The BBC’s Daniela Relph, at the scene, said the heart ofLondon was completely closed off and police officers were concentratingon keeping people away.

Trocadero, Piccadilly

People are unable to get to work

Thousands of commuters have been unable to get to work.

Professor Paul Wilkinson, a terrorism expert, said a passer-by had tipped off the police and officers would be concerned they did not have advanced intelligence.

Intelligence sources said they were keeping an open mind on who was responsible for the car bomb.

According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.es, the car is a grey Mercedes and contains gas canisters and a great quantity of nails.

Looks like the terrorists wanted to celebrate the appointment of the new English Cabinet.

Last news are that the bomb could have caused a carnage if it would have exploded…

Forensic staff are still examining the device, but once we know more about it, we’ll know more about what type of individuals are behind this,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the security details.

The official said Britain’s domestic spy agency MI5 also would examine possible connections between Friday’s incident and at least two similar foiled plots — including a planned attack on a West End nightclub in 2004 and a thwarted attempt to use limousines packed with gas canisters to attack targets in London and New York.

On the planned attack on West End nightclub in 2004:

  1. Connecting the dots.
  2. Another case of “what were the security forces doing?”.

Luckily, this time the plot has been foiled.

UPDATE 2:

EURSOC: While the terror level in Britain is ranked as “high”, intelligence sources claim that the attack took them by surprise. Car bombs are usually the provenance of Irish Republican groups, though the spotlight is obviously going to fall on Islamist jihadis.

FROM MSNBC:

A British security official told The Associated Press that there were similarities between the device and vehicle bombs used by insurgents in Iraq.

“Forensic staff are still examining the device, but once we know more about it, we’ll know more about what type of individuals are behind this,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the security details.

[… ] The incident comes a week before the second anniversary of the July 7 London bombings, when four British Muslim suicide bombers killed themselves and 52 bus and subway passengers.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who took office on Wednesday, said the incident was a reminder that Britain faces “a serious and continuous threat” and the “need to be alert.”

“I will stress to the Cabinet that the vigilance must be maintained over the next few days,” Brown said.

ANOTHER BOMB FOUND:

Police say the second device was found in a Mercedes in a Park Lane car park after it had been towed away from Cockspur Street, near Trafalgar Square.

Both devices were “viable” and “clearly linked”, police said.

At a news conference on Friday evening, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke, head of Scotland Yard’s counter-terrorism command, said the discovery of the second device was “obviously troubling”.

There was a considerable amount of fuel and gas canisters, as in the first vehicle. There was also a substantial quantity of nails,” he said.

Jonz, a fellow blogger from IBA, has spotted another worrying aspect:

The second device was found in a blue 280E model Mercedes. It was given a parking ticket at 0230 BST on Friday after being found illegally parked in Cockspur Street.

The vehicle was then towed to the Park Lane car pound about an hour later.

Looks like there are links to Al-Qaeda in London car:

According to Sky News, who cites police sources, the device was going to be detonated with a mobile phone. The Chief of the Anti-terrorist Chief Brigade from Scotland Yard, Peter Clarke, said that if it had exploded it would have caused a lot of dead and wounded.

[…] Regarding the authors, both policial sources and the Government point to Al Qaeda or people inspired by its ideology.

You only have to read about the last cases in which the culprits have been imprisoned to see that they were planning to explode night clubs and to put bombs with gas in cars“, said one of the sources.

Bomb in London’s Indian hotspot – Calcutta Telegraph

Bomb in London’s Indian hotspot
Calcutta Telegraph – 23 minutes ago
London, June 29: London had a very lucky escape today when a car bomb, which could have killed and maimed hundreds around Piccadilly Circus – a favourite haunt of Indians – was defused in the nick of time.
‘Al-Qaeda memo to Gordon Brown’ NEWS.com.au

Professor Anthony Glees of Brunel University, an intelligence expert at Brunel University, said the apparent simultaneous bombing attempt pointed to Al-Qaeda.

There even more evidence now that this is an al-Qaeda plot. It’s an al-Qaeda memo to Gordon Brown,” he said, referring to the new prime minister who succeeded Tony Blair on Wednesday.

“It’s an al-Qaeda memo to the British public, that they are determined to carry on…their attack on ordinary British people,” he said.

Speaking before the second device was found, Mr Brown said the alert was a fresh warning of the threat faced by London, which next week marks the second anniversary of the July 7 2005 suicide attacks which killed 52 people and the four bombers.

Rajeshree Patel, who was in the Tiger Tiger club when it was evacuated, told BBC television: “I think there would have been a lot of fatalities. There were approximately 500 people inside Tiger Tiger at the time.”

Explosives-packed car defused in London Houston Chronicle
Financial Times

The would-be car bomber who left his vehicle outside a London nightclub in the early hours of Friday morning would have provided huge volumes of photographic and video evidence as to his identity.

Central London is one of the most intensively watched areas in the world,” said Beverli Rhodes, head of security for Capita Symonds, an infrastructure consultancy that manages the capital’s so-called ring of steel.

The ring of steel monitors 52 entrances to central London, taking photographs of vehicle number plates, the vehicles themselves as well as separate images of drivers. The locations of the monitoring points are not publicly disclosed.

Apart from this, the centre is covered by intensive closed circuit television coverage which police said on Friday they were gathering as evidence. Given the bomb was defused, police said there would be a large amount of forensic and other evidence from the vehicle.

Ms Rhodes said there had been indications on some jihadi websites that terrorists would try to mount attacks to mark the coming to power of Gordon Brown. One had called, she said, for an activation of al-Qaeda sleeper cells in the UK, which potentially could mean further attacks.

Sugiero has another interesting (and worrying) link: Security forces fear Baghdad-style tactics in London:

On the streets of Baghdad the use of car bombs is a daily tactic which reaps horrific results. Senior officers have been waiting and dreading for those tactics to be employed in the UK by homegrown Islamist extremists.

Recently Scotland Yard admitted that they were carrying out anti-terrorist spot checks on lorries entering the capital.

A Blog for All:

Here’s more on how the first device was defused by the bomb squad in London; it had to be done by a bomb squad officer because the robot could not see through the thick haze in the vehicle.

Donning an approximately 90-pound Kevlar suit , one technician took “the long walk” from his armored response van to the Mercedes E 300 sedan and found a carefully constructed, large vehicle bomb with a complicated fuse. The bomb technician defused the device by hand, officials in London said.

ABC News has learned the bomb was composed of tanks of propane, butane and 125 liters of gasoline (33 U.S. gallons), roofing nails and a fuse that initial reports indicated was constructed of simple light bulb or flashbulb filaments and designed to be triggered by a mobile telephone.

The bomb failed to detonate because the fuel-air mixture was incorrect. Had it worked, it would have been a significant explosion. Also AJ Strata and Gateway Pundit.

From Newsvine:

The head of the International Monetary Fund will step down in October for personal reasons, it was announced Thursday, about six weeks after the upheaval at the helm of its sister institution, the World Bank.

My family circumstances and responsibilities, particularly withregard to the education of my children, are the reason forrelinquishing earlier than expected my responsibilities at the Fund,”he said in a statement to the board of the 185-nation lendinginstitution.

De Rato, 58, a former Spanish economy minister, toldthe executive board of the 185-nation lending organization he wouldleave in October after the IMF’s annual meeting.

He was due to end his five-year term in May 2009. He succeeded Horst Koehler, now Germany’s president, in May 2004.

Uff, whatever the people surrounding him says, I really believe he is returning to the next Spanish election campaign. The exact date is not known though, although it could be next October or a little later, in March 2008.

He was a magnificent MP, a terror for PSOE because of his very well-organised brain and his bitter but calm answers. I really would like him again in Spain as Minister, if it’s possible. 😀 [He also made errors, the biggest one in communication policy…].

estación de servicio iraní quemadaIran’s gas rationing sets off violence

Houston Chronicle – 51 minutes ago
By NASSER KARIMI AP Writer © 2007 AP TEHRAN, Iran – Iranians smashed shop windows and set fire to a dozen gas stations in the capital Wednesday, angered by the sudden start of a fuel rationing system that threatens to further increase the unpopularity of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Police were sent to guard some stations after the violence, and there was calm during the day as motorists lined up to fill their tanks under the new restrictions.

The government had been warning for weeks that rationing was coming, but the announcement of its start just three hours before the plan took effect at midnight Tuesday startled people and sent them rushing to get one last fill-up.image

The rationing is part of a government attempt to reduce the $10 billion it spends each year to import fuel that is then sold to Iranian drivers at less than cost, to keep prices low.

Iran is one of the world’s biggest oil producers, but it doesn’t have enough refineries, so it must import more than 50 percent of the gasoline its people use. The government says money saved from subsidies can go to building refineries, improving public transit and creating jobs.

But a hike in gas prices last month and now the rationing are feeding discontent with Ahmadinejad, who was elected in 2005 on a platform of helping the poor and fixing Iran’s ailing economy. His failure to do so has sparked widespread criticism.

This man, Ahmadinejad, has damaged all things. The timing of the rationing is just one case,” said Reza Khorrami, a 27-year-old teacher who was among those lined up at one Tehran gas station late Tuesday.image

UDPATE: Experts consider that both Syria and Iran can be the responsibles of the attack. [Scroll down]

«This is not fair!»

PM José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero approached the Crown Prince Felipe and wife Letizia to take his leave when in between the relatives of the soldiers a voice came up totally full of pain: the voice belonged to the mother of one of the parachuiters. «This is not fair. Give more security to these kids!», she stormed against the President. The security services tried to prevent her from approaching to Zapatero, but in the end it was him who wanted to pay attention to her. [about time too….].

With a mixture of ire, pain, frustration and impotence, her firm voice was broken as she was also crying, what did not prevent her from continuing with her speech. «There is no valor to protect the vehicles of these lads. They were people who had their full lives to live!», she shouted to Zapatero before asking him to fight for «Spanish youths» and shout «¡Viva Esperanza Aguirre!» (President of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, from Popular Party, won the last elections with a huge absolute majority and has been the only one who really has helped the relatives). The President bear the way he could the uncomfortable situation with the help of VP María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, while Defense Minister Alonso just did not pay attention to the incident.

But this was not the only critic to Zapatero. Ramón Luján, Yeison Alejandro Castaño’ uncle, one of the dead, complained about the “lack of tact” of the Government. «They should have been nearer the relatives». While he could barely speak, Luján remembers that if his nephew died it was, precisely, “because of the sentiment he had, so high, for the Spanish Army“. Castaño has also a cousin, Soldier Pino, also deployed in Lebanon, that yesterday, minutes before the funeral, spoke about his firm decision to end his mission for him and for the dead companions. You do not know never where death is, he has told his mother.

La Razón | Digital : España

More shame:

The Government had some initiatives since March in Congress to inform about the troops deployed in Lebanon. Pending to answer, there were two petitions in which it was asked the presence of the Defense Minister, one of them based on article 18 of the Law of National Defense (passed by Socialists under Zapatero), which obliges the Government to inform about the development of the operations abroad in periods no longer than 6 months (last time was in March 2006) and 9 questions to be answered orally in Commisions. There are also 42 written questions about the troops’ situation which were resolved in an inconcrete and fleeing-like way, according to PP.

Ex-Defense Minister Bono -the one who awarded himself a medal for fleeing from Iraq- mentioned the accident of the Yakovlev (42 soldiers dead) which was an ACCIDENT, while this has been an AMBUSH inside a WAR. smile_baringteeth

More here.

The wounded don’t know yet their companions are dead. Even if do not think it’s good to publish the photos of ailing people, in this case it is necessary for all to see, how they are now. The 2nd grade burns have gravely damaged their eyes. They can be more wounded because of Zapatero’s decision not to have aid helicopters deployed as in that case the number of Spanish troops in foreign mission could be well above the 3.000 that was the top number to which he compromised when his term began.

heridos en líbano (2)heridos en líbano (2)

And the worst of all: Now Defense says that the low risk of terrorist attacks did not justify the use of inhibitors. Of course not, that is why every damned politician in Spain, where we are not in a state of war, uses expensive inhibitors in their cars, while soldiers in plein war camp, do not merit even the cheap ones.

By the way, Lebanon has awarded Spanish soldiers with THREE WAR MEDALS. Spanish Government has awarded them with the medal “Dead on Humanitarian Work“.[NOTE: I do not have the link, I have heard it on the radio this morning. When I have the link I will post it]. smile_baringteeth More indignity…

More commenting at Spanish blog Etimologías. Don’t worry most of the post is in English. But Syria appears to be THE culprit, as Blacksmith Jade commented here.

Zapatero will speak today in Congress, about the security of the mission in Lebanon. Wait and see what he has to say…

Spanish MSM are reporting that instead of helping the dead and the wounded, Italian soldiers made photos, while Lebanese Army helped them. h/t Anghara. Don’t know if that’s true, but if that’s the case, smile_sad.

UPDATE: Are Syria and Iran the real responsible of the attacks?

Syria:

The first consideration that can link Fatah al Islam to Syrian Government is that the Lebanese PM, Fuad Siniora said “I have confessions of some of the people who surrendered with links to the Syrian Security Services. It is probable it was ordered by Damascus“. Syrian intelligence has denied any links with the group and has blamed CIA and Mossad just as usual. Crossed accusations that do not lead to Al-Qaeda.

Fatah al-Islam was born in the end of 2006 when it parted from Fatah al-Intifada (Fatah del levantamiento), a Palestinian group backed with Syria and Lebanese based. It’s believed that Fatah al-Islam has between 150 and 200 armed men, all of them based in refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared, in Tripoli, North Lebanon. Lebanese refugee camps are normally used as refugee by armed groups. Government’s security forces do not enter and only guard their perimeter.

Fatah al-Islam’s leader is Shakir al-Abssi, a re-known Palestinian militant. Abssi has denied any link with al-Qaeda.

But he has important links with Syria. Suspicions lie on the fact that he was sentenced in 2003 to 3 years in prison after being accused of planning attacks against the country. That is a very small punishment, considering that Syrian accused of belonging to Muslim Brotherhood normally receive punishments of 12 years. When he was freed, he appeared between the pro-Syrian groups of the Fatah-Intifada in Nahr al-Bared refugee camp, and in very short time he emerged as the leader of the new Fatah al-Islam. That is one of the reasons why general Ashraf Rifi, the leader of the Lebanese Security Force concludes that all the violence is a Syrian creation to create chaos.

Also international antiterrorist experts consider that Fatah al Islam has nothing to do with Al Qaeda neither in financial terms nor in logistical ones. But they do not deny the possibility of Fatah al-Islam being supported and financed by Syria.

The thirdreason is the great easiness with which the group moves within the Hizbullah territory. We have to underline the very narrow relatiosnhips of Hibullah with Damascus and Teheran. The place where the Spanish patrol suffered the attack is one the most important places of Hizbullah presence in Lebanon. The investigators do not understand this kind of easiness throughout Hizbullah’s territory without belonging to Syrian security services. And their explanation is plausible: Supposedly Fatah al Islam is integrated by Sunni Jihadists who hate the Shiites, and do not make any exceptions with Hizbullag, a Damascus’ ally. “If Fatah al Islam is not related with Syrian Government, Hizbullah will forbid its jihadists from being in their territories”, they say.

In this moment, the investigation maintains there are two great suspects: Fatah al Islam and pro-Iranian groups. What these investigators do know is that “the authors had the permission of Hizbullah to move throughout their territories what implies that both Iran and Syria should be aware of the operation. And consider also that C4 is an explosive used by Pro-Syrian groups and Hizbullah

And the reason for Iran anymosity -considering that Zapatero has promoted the “Alliance of Civilizations“- is: that the Iranian leadership did not like that the Spanish FM Moratinos rejected the Ahmadinerjacket’s thesis about “wiping Israel off the map” AND:

Seyyed Davud Salehi, Iranian Ambassador in Madrid, has critisized the lack of support of Spain to “help the coalition Government in Palestine and to lift the embargo imposed on Palestinians“.

In a recent interview to the Iranian Agency Irna, he advised (…hmmm, menaced) the Spanish Government to take care of a new virus which could influence negatively the good bilateral  relations. The investigators are considering the possibility that that virus is the terrorist attack against Spanish troops near Syrian frontier, using that supposed diplomatic confrontment as the excuse to launch the attack.

So, where is now the Alliance of Civilizations, Zapatero? What are you waiting for asking some questions to Iranian and Syrian representants in Madrid? And what are you going to do if they are behind the attack?

Dahlan: Iran, Qatar supported Hamas during Gaza ‘coup’

Jerusalem Post – 1 hour ago
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH

“I was not surprised by the coup in the Gaza Strip,” Dahlan said. “I knew about Hamas’s plans and I told different parties about this so we could try to thwart them.”

Asked why the Fatah-controlled security forces were defeated by Hamas, Dahlan said: “The Palestinian security establishment was never prepared for internal fighting. Since the beginning of the intifada in 2000 our security forces faced systematic destruction by Israel. The Israelis destroyed 280 security installations in the past seven years and Hamas continued to destroy security installations before they launched their coup.”

Dahlan pointed out that Hamas militiamen had raided the central prison in Gaza City and freed some murderers. “They claim that they have just liberated the Gaza Strip for the second time [after Israeli disengagement],” he said. “The Hamas men have Fatah blood on their hands. They forgot that Fatah had protected them when they were being chased by Israel.”

Dahlan denied that he had played any role in the Hamas-Fatah clashes that preceded the takeover, saying he had been abroad for nearly two months for surgery. “I was not in charge of security in the Gaza Strip,” he explained. “I was out of the country because I had to undergo surgery. This is not a personal matter because Hamas has been targeting our people and institutions over the past three years.”

Dahlan lashed out at Qatar and Iran, accusing each country of giving Hamas $400 million. He also accused Qatar of turning its Al-Jazeera TV network into an organ for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.

For decades, Iran never paid the Palestinians one dollar,” he said. “But they gave Hamas $400 million that went to Hamas’s bank accounts and not to the Palestinian people. Qatar also gave Hamas another $400 million that were used to slaughter Palestinians.”

Anyway, there are signs that Fatah never fought Hamas:

No mainstream news source has reported the clear truth about the Fatah-Hamas ‘war’–there wasn’t any. Fatah never fought. Whether the cause was conspiracy or not, two facts are certain: 1) The enormous resources provided to Fatah to fight Hamas in Gaza were essentially unused and are now in the hands of Hamas to attack Israel. 2) Enormous resources are now being provided to Fatah to fight Hamas in the West Bank.

And then we have the possible knowledge and support by both Iran and Syria of the attack against the UN Spanish peacekeepers

Police has detained today in Barcelona three Moroccans, two of them this morning and the third in the afternoon, with alledged links with Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb.

The first detained were 23-year-old Mohamed Laksir and 27-year-old Moulay Lahoucine Miftah Idrissi. The two are accused of an alledged crime of belonging to illicit association to prepare and commit terrorist attacks. The two belonged to a cell which made the job of recruiting, proselitising and taught the radical teachings of Islam.

The objective was to travel to the training camps of the African region of Sahel.

The investigations were began in Dec. 2005, after the dismantlement of a terrorist structure which had roots in Spain with a close relationship with Salafist groups.

In fact, Moulay Lahoucine Miftah Idrissi is the brother of Mohamed el Idrissi, one of the last Islamists accused by Judge Garzón two weeks ago. Mohammed was impeached, but not accused because of an alledged relationship with March 11th bombings, because, according to the investigation, El Idrissi carried a mobile phone to the families of one of the terrorists who fleed, Mohammed Afalah, to let him speak before dying in Iraq.
