I’m sorry but the reference is copied from the page that fight against Female Genital Mutilation. This is not the first time I see that written though. Write them and see what they can tell you about it.
Of course, and if you consider the countries in which it is practised, you can see that there is an overwhelming majority of … Muslims. So even if it were not in the Koram, that would be a mainly Muslim practice. Even if you (as a Muslim?) would not consider it as a good practice.
And about the “God created us equal”, just tell me one thing: how on earth that can be cohonested with the “2 women are needed as witness is a man has stated before tribunal”; “women have half of the share a man has in an inheritance”; “women are said to be deficient”; that I remember now.

Ah, but the women’s rights groups are doing other things but campaigning for abortion?

I have not read Infidel, by the way. I have to buy it.

The problem, as Waris Dirie says, is that a very important number of people -most of the people, I should say- does not know it is happening just now.

I also thought it was not so invasive… and done by a doctor with a minimum hygiene and anaesthesia…

Recently, I read Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s book Infidel. In that book she gives a brief account of her genital mutilation–at her grandmother’s insistence and in the name of Allah.

When I read that section of Infidel to my husband, he was outraged. Why isn’t all the world outraged?

Yes, velvet. A true horrible practice. I really was astonished when I read it. No doctor, no asepsia, no anaesthesia. I’m very concerned -or mostly concerned- about this lack of consideration for the girls’ health. And what is horrible is that it’s normally your own mother the one who does that.
The danger is not only there but also in Europe and in other parts of the world. In Spain, for example, it’s been said that we have to fight against it, but no information is given to the public.
It’s really hard to read it.
